Give Me Time And it continues:
Israeli airstrikes pounded the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital near the airport early Wednesday, lighting up the night with explosions.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the latest airstrikes, but at least a dozen people were killed in Israel and Lebanon on Tuesday.

Eleven Lebanese soldiers died in an Israeli airstrike on an army barracks, and one Israeli was killed by Hezbollah rockets fired into northern Israel, sources said.

To say why can't we just get along would be naive, I know that. I will tell you that it goes without saying all of this is disturbing. I try to explain it to my nieces, and I can't. I don't know how. Try explaining this to a seven-year old. Give me a little bit of time, and as soon as I figure it out, I will try to explain it to a kid. But I'm just not ready.
Comments:
It's pretty simple. There's a group of "bad people" (terrorists) who want to kill off the people of Israel because someone told them that they're not REALLY nomads and that Israel is somehow THEIR homeland. These "bad" people just like to kill in the name of their god. They don't see any difference between a Jewish baby or a Jewish soldier. They just want to kill as many as possilbe in their god's name.

Israel, who has been working VERY hard to maintain peace and get along with the "bad" people are done trying to feed a shark in hopes it gets full enough not to eat them. They're fighting for their survival like anyone should.

You might also want to tell them that Israel, if they REALLY wanted to, could kill ALL the bad people (men, women, and children), but mercifully don't. They don't long for the "bad" people's death. They just want to be left alone in their homes to raise their families and exist.

That's a good start.
