Winter Wonderland Gala Features Neiman The Jackson Sun has a story today about LeRoy Neiman and raising money for the uninsured in west Tennessee.

Not all FedEx packages are quite the same. The one that arrived in Jackson on Friday held prints of an original artwork of Andrew Jackson by renowned international artist LeRoy Neiman.

The original 16x20 enamel and acrylic art will be auctioned to benefit the Health and Healing Clinic of Madison County on Nov. 11 at the Winter Wonderland Gala. More than 150,000 Neiman prints that have been purchased have an estimated value of $400 million today, and he has donated art collections to the Smithsonian Institution.

West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation launched the clinic to meet health care needs of people ages 18 to 64 in Madison County who have no health insurance. Fees will be charged on a sliding scale according to the patient's ability to pay. Jackson-Madison County General Hospital provided $500,000 to help. More than 100 doctors will volunteer their services, but there are still major expenses to meet

Collectors have already heard of the painting and have indicated interest, Murphy said. The value of the art will be "north of $100,000," she added. "The Hermitage is very excited about this."

McMeen said he recalled seeing Neiman's art hanging during the Olympics. "It's so sought after by collectors," he said. "Having his art for the gala is unbelievable."

So if you dig LeRoy Neiman and want to donate some money, head over there.
