Cowboy Diplomacy Eulogy Time Magazine has a front page story coming out this week and the cover says it simply: "The End of Cowboy Diplomacy." It starts like this and you will have to look at an ad before you can read the whole thing, but it's interesting. I guess the question for me that comes out of this is are we moving into a new era for Bush. It begins like this:
The dress code at George W. Bush's white house is cuff- linked and starch collared, reflecting the temper of a President with a reputation for no-nonsense, alpha-male decisiveness. That's why the 200 guests gathered at the White House on Independence Day were surprised to learn that Bush had decided to rip up protocol.
In an overview of the story from the Huffington Post, here's a break down:
President George W. Bush came to office pledging to focus on domestic issues and pursue a “humble” foreign policy that would avoid the entanglements of the Bill Clinton years. After Sept. 11, however, the Bush team embarked on a different path, outlining a muscular, idealistic, and unilateralist vision of American power and how to use it, TIME reports.
I think it goes without saying that Bush's approval numbers are low, people are tired of the horrible news in Iraq, the spin in all of government's branches and the appearance of corruption on every level. So I guess the White House folks are rethinking it. And what does that mean for the American people, and for the world.
Comments:
The Republicans of today are the Liberal Democrats of yesterday. Yes people are tired of fighting UN wars, 8.3 TRILLION $ debt, More and Bigger and Intrusive Government.
